Sustainable Development and Our Commitment to the Environment

Environmental issues form a fundamental part of BioBag®’s activities. BioBag is committed to sustainability. We have taken clear steps towards protecting our environment while maintaining high quality and reliable products. We persistently search for the best raw materials and production methods that limit any negative effects on the environment. This includes a strong commitment to use as much renewable raw materials in our products as possible. Along with the commitment to our products and the environment, we emphasize the importance of this commitment internally with our employees. Our sustainability pledge is a natural part of our company culture.

BioBag products contain renewable raw materials of agricultural origin such as non-genetically modified starch derived from crops. Our raw material for bags and films is called Mater-Bi®.

Mater-Bi®

In the long term, our society needs to substitute raw materials based on fossils (petroleum) with raw materials from renewable sources. Oil is a limited resource, the cost of which is rising due to increased global demand. The majority of BioBag products are made from Mater-Bi®. Mater-Bi® is an innovative family of bioplastics that uses substances obtained from plants, such as corn starch, and biodegradable/compostable polymers obtained both from renewable raw materials and fossil raw materials. Mater-Bi® is the result of continuous efforts to use new technologies and new industrial supply chains based on the use of renewable energy and raw materials, while ensuring the highest levels of performance. The use of renewable raw materials, instead of those derived from fossils in the chemical and plastics industry, can help control greenhouse gases. These renewable raw materials use atmospheric CO2, absorbed by plants through photosynthesis.

Our Certifications

All of BioBag’s products, bags, sacks, and films are certified compostable and biodegradable according to the European Standard EN 13432, the US Standard ASTM D6400 and the Australian Standard AS 4736. Please see more details about our certifications.
